Birds of Poconé (MT,Brazil)

The checklist that follows, prepared by Antônio Silveira, as the result of two visits to the region of Poconé-MT (from August 06th to 9th, 1999 and May 11th to 15th, 2009), more exactly at the region of the kms 27 to 46 from Transpantaneira Road, that links Poconé to Porto Jofre.

Besides going through the quoted road, parks and trades in some farms and local hotels, we also observed the fauna in watered wood aroung Claro River, as also boating in this river. The region é too preserved and has a great biodiversity, where can be observed the occurrence of mammals as Panthera oncaFelix concolor and Pteronura brasiliensis, what shows its high grade of preservation, having to be preserved and more and more prepared for the fauna observation tourism.

Up to now we have already observed 209  species of birds, with a lot of species that are interesting for the birdwatchers like Anodorhynchus hyacinthinus (Hyacinthine Macaw), Penelope ochrogaster(Chestnut-bellied guan), Sporophila angolensis (Chestnut-bellied Seed-Finch)  and Agamia agami(Agami Heron), the last one noticed for the region, besides another ones.

But we calculate that there are more than 300 species for the region near Transpantaneira Road, because there are a lot of ecosystems related to the biom Scrub. There are also many rivers, pounds and watered areas (temporary and permanents) etc.
