Fauna Systematic Division
Introduction
Our planet's beings are divided in two
big kingdoms:
- Vegetal Kingdom
- Animal Kingdom
The systematic of classification is:
Kingdoms
Phylum
Subphylum
Superclasses
Classes
Orders
Families
Genus
Species
One of the most difficult things for scientists who study flora and fauna
is their systematic organization, making their classification.
Here we will study the Animal Kingdom.
Animals are scientifically classified as the taxonomy that
studies morphology and anatomy, known as traditional systematic.
There are also the modern biochemical methods that deal
with genetic systematic, using the knowledge of molecular biology, and
bringing a lot of news in terms of classification.
Nomenclature
Another interesting thing is the way in
which species are named. Let's see it.
Using a generic name and a specific one
in Latin, Lineu (1758) have created the systematic of binomial designation
for naming animal and vegetal species, originating the scientific name,
from which species are known worldwide.
It is like that: Turdus rufiventris (Rufous-bellied
Thrush)
The first designation (Turdus)
is the genus. The second one (rufiventris) is free and represents
some animal's characteristic, or some person being honored or the place
where the animal was discovered. The popular designations are normally
used by layman, are variable in the regions, making difficult the
recognition sometimes. The right may be referring to the scientific and
popular designations: ex.: Turdus rufiventris, Rufous-bellied
Thrush.
